A partnership agreement was signed in Marrakech between the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation and Huawei Morocco on Monday, April 14, 2025, during the “GITEX Africa Morocco 2025” event.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, Aziz El Mehdawi, and the General Manager of Huawei Morocco, David Lee, in the presence of Shin Li, President of Huawei for North, West, and Central Africa, along with several prominent figures from the education and technology sectors.
This partnership embodies a shared vision aimed at empowering Moroccan youth to keep pace with rapid technological transformations and preparing them to play a crucial role in leading digital change. Additionally, it serves as a pioneering model for constructive cooperation between the public and private sectors, aligning with royal directives, while contributing to making digital transformation a fundamental driver of development, inclusion, and competitiveness.
The agreement focuses on four main pillars: training, scientific research, innovation, and enhancing employability. In terms of training, the program will be expanded to include university professors, while continuously updating the educational materials.
As for scientific research, bridges will be established to allow doctoral students to benefit from field visits to Huawei’s research and development centers worldwide. In the area of innovation, student projects will be supported, along with necessary assistance for entrepreneurship in the information and communication technology sector. Regarding employability, the agreement aims to bring universities closer to the job market through practical initiatives that keep pace with the latest developments in digital professions.
David Lee stated on this occasion: “This agreement marks a significant milestone in the fruitful cooperation we have with the ministry, reflecting our shared commitment to building a new generation of digital leaders capable of innovating sustainable solutions and accelerating the pace of digital transformation in the kingdom.”
In this context, the agreement builds on a rich portfolio of achievements accomplished between 2021 and 2024, during which both parties established effective and fruitful collaboration that yielded tangible results. The “ICT Academy” program enabled the training of over 16,000 Moroccan students, awarded 1,400 accredited “HCIA” certificates, organized 100 digital seminars, and engaged 4,900 students in program competitions. The “ICT Job Fair” facilitated the creation of 1,800 job opportunities, significantly easing graduates’ integration into the digital job market.
This initiative represents a shared ambition to build a cohesive digital Morocco, capable of developing its own capabilities and enhancing its position within regional and global technological ecosystems.
Huawei confirmed its ongoing commitment to contributing to the development of national human capital and investing its potential in service of innovation and digital advancement.
