Marrakech will host the first edition of the National Citrus Conference next May

The Moroccan Interprofessional Federation for Citrus Fruits (Morocco Citrus) announced in a statement the organization of the first edition of the National Citrus Conference, between May 13 and 15, in Marrakech, under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water, and Forests.

The federation’s statement indicated that this conference will bring together, over three days, all stakeholders in the sector, including producers, packers, exporters, industrialists, institutions, and researchers, to redefine the future landscape of the citrus sector in Morocco.

The same source highlighted that, for the first time during this conference, the results of a comprehensive census conducted by the Morocco Citrus Federation on the area of citrus orchards in Morocco and the planted varieties will be presented. This will form the basis for diagnosing the current state of the sector and making the necessary strategic decisions for its development and growth.

This event, organized under the slogan “Multiple Challenges for Citrus: What Levers for Action?”, aims to provide a space for dialogue and exchange among all stakeholders in the citrus production chain. It will also serve as a scientific platform to share the results of the latest research and studies, as well as a forum for consultation to develop an ambitious and realistic roadmap.

The organizers noted that this conference comes at a “critical stage” for the citrus chain, characterized by the impacts of climate change, particularly water stress, increasing production costs, labor shortages, and heightened international competition, which necessitates mobilization and innovation from the sector.
