The National Office of Statistics Celebrates World Statistics Day: For Quality Statistics and Data for All

The National Office of Statistics (HCP) celebrated World Statistics Day on October 20 and 21, 2025, an event organized every five years by the international statistical community. This year’s theme was “Enhancing Change through Quality Statistics and Data for All,” in collaboration with Bank Al-Maghrib and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Through a national conference and an open day for the public, this event provided a space for reflection, exchange, and awareness regarding the pivotal role of data in the national transformation process.

This celebration was a continuation of the structural reforms initiated by the National Office of Statistics, in line with royal directives, the recommendations of the new development model, and the requirements of advanced regionalization. It marked an important step in modernizing the national statistical production system.

The office emphasized that high-quality statistics are not merely a technical tool, but a strategic lever for governance, essential for designing, monitoring, and evaluating public policies. The event highlighted the role of data in enhancing transparency, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making at all levels of public work.

The national conference, held on October 20 in Rabat, brought together various government officials, representatives of public and regional institutions, international experts, private sector stakeholders, and academic researchers. Discussions focused on data quality, coordination, information sharing, and challenges stemming from multiple statistical sources. Participants stressed the importance of enhancing collaboration between institutions, adopting unified methodological standards, and promoting a culture of open data.

Attendees also discussed opportunities for digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and information technologies to modernize statistical production, emphasizing innovation, continuous training, and dialogue between data producers and users to better integrate statistics into economic and social life.

On October 21, the office and its partners opened their doors to the public in an educational and interactive atmosphere. Informative booths, supervised by teams from HCP, Bank Al-Maghrib, and UNFPA, offered visitors—especially youth, students, and researchers—an opportunity to learn about various aspects of statistics and its actual role in development.

The events included workshops, visual presentations, and interactive digital tool demonstrations, allowing participants to experience interactive platforms and understand statistical data collection and analysis processes while engaging directly with specialists. This initiative contributed to enhancing statistical culture within society and stimulating interest among younger generations in data.

The celebration extended beyond the capital to various regions of the kingdom through the activation of the regional directorates of the National Office of Statistics and partners in the regional statistical system. Workshops, informative days, and awareness campaigns were organized at several universities and higher education institutions to enhance local awareness of the importance of data and highlight its role in regional planning and integrated development.

Through this celebration, the National Office of Statistics and its partners renewed their commitment to strengthening a national data system that is reliable, comprehensive, and future-oriented. They affirmed that statistics represent an essential public facility to ensure transparency, cohesion, and sustainability of development policies. By placing quality, innovation, and collaboration at the heart of their work, the involved institutions reiterated their commitment to making data a driver for change that serves sustainable development and evidence-based decision-making.
