On August 10, the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Chamber of Commerce and Industry participated in a key event at the Farah Hotel in Tangier, marking Morocco’s National Day for Citizens Living Abroad. The meeting, organized by the Regional Investment Center, focused on the significant role of Moroccan expatriates in driving the country’s major projects towards successful completion by 2030.
Representing the Chamber, First Vice President Hussein Ben Taïb was joined by Yassine Alroud, Aziz Ben Msbah, and Hanan Tahir. Administrative leader Mohammed Yajou, head of the Support and Promotion Department, also attended. The discussion underscored the critical contributions of the Moroccan diaspora to the nation’s economic development, given their diverse talents, expertise, capital, and international networks, which can enhance the competitiveness of Morocco’s economy and foster connections with global markets.
The Chamber emphasized that the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region has emerged as a leading economic hub in Morocco due to significant projects, particularly the Tangier-Med Port, industrial zones, logistics networks, and renewable energy initiatives. This transformation has positioned the region as an attractive destination for international investment.
Moreover, the diaspora is viewed as a natural partner in this economic dynamic, equipped with experience and capital, as well as insights into international markets. Their ability to transfer technology, share best practices, and open new avenues for economic collaboration is vital.
The event also highlighted the Chamber’s efforts in promoting investment and entrepreneurship, supporting project holders and small to medium-sized enterprises. The focus includes enhancing regional economic competitiveness, fostering skill development, and driving innovation and digital transformation while strengthening economic diplomacy and partnerships both nationally and internationally.
A key takeaway was the necessity to shift from a seasonal relationship with the Moroccan diaspora to a sustainable economic partnership based on productive investment, business creation, knowledge transfer, and international collaborations. This approach aims to encourage exports, foster innovation, and create job opportunities, ultimately contributing to regional development.
