Eight Injured After Car Collides with Crowd in Germany

Eight people were injured after a car struck a crowd in Stuttgart, southwest Germany, on Friday, according to local police, who stated that “there is currently no evidence of an attack or deliberate act.”

The police announced on their X account that “based on our current investigations, our colleagues on the scene believe it to be a tragic accident.”

They reported that “a car hit a group of people” in the Obertürkheim district in downtown Stuttgart, adding that the toll stands at “eight injured, three of whom are in serious condition.”

German security forces have been on high alert following several deadly vehicle attacks in recent months, particularly in the cities of Magdeburg in the east and Munich in the south.

German media reported the arrest of the driver, a black Mercedes, without providing further details.

A police spokesperson told the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” that the accident occurred around 5:50 PM (3:50 PM GMT).

Firefighters stated that the three individuals with serious injuries were transported to the hospital, while the others received treatment on-site.

On Friday, police advised residents to avoid downtown Stuttgart, warning of significant disruptions to traffic.

A broken stroller was seen at the scene early in the evening.

The “Bild” newspaper quoted eyewitnesses saying that a woman pushing a stroller was among the injured.
