Recent official Chinese data has revealed that Morocco has risen to the third position globally among the top importers of butadiene rubber, primarily used in the manufacturing of truck tires from China, having imported 2,822.13 tons in March, which accounts for 11.83 percent of the Asian country’s total exports of this material to the world.
According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China, China’s exports of butadiene rubber in March 2025 reached 23,849.41 tons, reflecting a monthly increase of 29.22 percent and an annual rise of 21.44 percent.
In this context, the government agency and Chinese media reported that Vietnam secured the first position among importers in March, importing 7,330.57 tons, which is 30.74 percent of the total. Thailand came second with imports of 5,669.25 tons, representing 23.77 percent. Morocco surged to third place on the list, importing 2,822.13 tons, or 11.83 percent, surpassing countries like Cambodia.
The same source attributed the increase in butadiene rubber exports to Morocco to the operation of new local tire manufacturing plants there, in addition to a supply gap resulting from maintenance at butadiene facilities in the Middle East.
Furthermore, the source noted that “the growing demand from the emerging electric vehicle sector has created a continuous need for importing high-quality rubber types, which local production currently cannot meet.”
Meanwhile, Russia, South Korea, and Japan maintained the top three positions as primary suppliers of butadiene rubber to China in March 2025.
According to the same source, Russia led with an import of 12,971.7 tons, showing an annual growth of 40.97 percent, which accounted for 55.12 percent of China’s total imports. Meanwhile, China imported 3,604.45 tons from South Korea, marking a slight annual decline of 0.4 percent and 15.32 percent of the total imports.
Japan occupied the third spot, importing 1,654.76 tons, but experienced a sharp annual decline of 36.51 percent, representing 7.03 percent of the total, according to the same source.
