The President of the Andean Parliament: Morocco is a Global Capital of Parliamentary Diplomacy

The President of the Andean Parliament, Gustavo Pacheco Villar, stated yesterday in Marrakech that Morocco, a country distinguished by its rich civilization, has become a “global capital of parliamentary diplomacy.”

In a speech during the opening session of the 3rd International Forum of Young Socialist and Social-Democratic Parliamentarians, Villar declared that “Morocco, by organizing global conferences and forums on South-South cooperation and dialogue, has further reinforced its position as a capital of parliamentary diplomacy.”

In this context, the President of the Andean Parliament praised Morocco’s various initiatives and activities aimed at bridging cultures and countries around the world. He noted that the Kingdom of Morocco serves as a model for party solidarity and dialogue among Southern nations, thanks to the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Furthermore, Villar emphasized the importance of this forum in enhancing the role of youth in decision-making, calling for collaborative efforts to make this event a “solid and effective” platform for exchange and proposal.

In this regard, the Second Deputy President of the Peruvian Congress, Valdemar Ciron Rojas, pointed out that this forum provides participants with the opportunity “to exchange ideas for building a multicultural and supportive society, thereby enhancing our essential path toward peace and progress.”

The Peruvian representative stated, “This socialist space serves as a favorable platform for the exchange of ideas, proposals, and knowledge that will help us improve policies in our countries.”

For his part, the Deputy President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Parliament, Isaac Jean Claude Musa Tshilumbayi, affirmed that this forum is of great significance at a time when environmental, social, and economic crises are increasing, rendering the future increasingly uncertain.

He added, “We, as parliamentarians, both young and old, are the guardians of the people’s will and entrusted with essential duties. We bear a historical responsibility,” highlighting that this conference represents an opportunity to illuminate and redefine the collective mission of the left while strengthening international cooperation and solidarity among different parties.

In addition, the Technical Secretary of the National Council for Gender Equality in Ecuador, Verónica Carrión, confirmed that although there are cultural, political, or geographical differences, parliamentarians face common challenges such as violence against women, combating poverty and vulnerability, defending individual freedoms, and countering hate speech.

In this context, Carrión called for solidarity cooperation among parliamentarians based on a shared legislative approach and humanity, emphasizing the necessity of integrating these principles into various public policies. She added that these human rights-based approaches must be strengthened through effective partnerships with civil society and state institutions to ensure “effective and tangible” protection of rights for citizens.

The International Forum of Young Socialist and Social-Democratic Parliamentarians, organized by the Socialist Group in the Moroccan Parliament in cooperation with the Youth of the Unified Socialist Party and the (Mina Latina) Forum, aims to discuss key topics such as global peace, South-South parliamentary diplomacy, humanitarian crises, climate issues, and human rights.

It also seeks to encourage young parliamentarians to consult and analyze these issues, propose innovative and effective solutions, and highlight their capabilities to use modern technology and social media to mobilize and raise awareness on important issues, particularly those related to social justice, the environment, and gender equality.
