The police used live ammunition to apprehend a suspect who resisted arrest in Smara.

On Saturday afternoon, the judicial police unit of the Regional Security in Smara opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor to determine the criminal actions attributed to a 30-year-old man with a criminal record, suspected of being involved in a traffic accident followed by a hit-and-run, as well as possession of a knife in circumstances threatening the safety of individuals and property.

Initial data indicated that the suspect caused a traffic accident resulting in injuries, then fled the scene using a vehicle designated for transporting goods. A police patrol intervened to stop him, but he confronted the officers with violent resistance, wielding a knife, which compelled one police officer to use his service weapon, firing a shot that hit the suspect in the foot. This allowed police to control him and transport him to the hospital for necessary medical assistance.

Authorities have placed the suspect under medical supervision pending the commencement of the judicial investigation overseen by the public prosecutor, aiming to uncover all circumstances and details surrounding the incident and to specify the actions attributed to him.
