Google Reveals for the First Time the Number of Gemini Users Worldwide
Google disclosed during ongoing antitrust litigation that the number of monthly active users of its AI-powered chatbot, Gemini, reached 350 million as of March.
The usage of Google’s AI tools has seen significant growth according to the announced figures; the number of daily active users for Gemini did not exceed 9 million in October 2024, but this figure rose last month to 35 million daily users according to the company’s data.
Despite this growth, Gemini is still lagging behind other AI tools. Google indicated in the data presented in court that the number of monthly active users for OpenAI’s ChatGPT was approximately 600 million in March, positioning it similarly to Meta AI, which Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, mentioned last September is nearing the 500 million monthly user mark.
Companies differ in how they calculate the number of monthly active users, but the new figures highlight the increasing adoption of the Gemini chatbot. This expansion is attributed to Google integrating its AI services across various platforms, such as Samsung phones, Google Workspace applications, and the Chrome browser.
The integration of Gemini specifically into Samsung devices has been a key factor driving the increase in users, as Google provided AI-supported features seamlessly integrated into Samsung’s default interface, a partnership that has reportedly cost Google significant amounts, according to recent reports.
