The Chinese police issued an official statement revealing the details surrounding the death of Gabonese player Aaron Boupendza, forward for FC Zhejiang, who passed away after falling from the eleventh floor of the residential building in which he lived.
In a statement published by the website “Foot Africa,” the police confirmed that the incident occurred on April 16, 2025, at around 1:14 PM local time, after receiving a call from citizens reporting that a person had fallen from a residential building. Consequently, security personnel were dispatched to the location, and the injured was taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention; however, he later succumbed to his injuries.
The statement indicated that the victim was Aaron Boupendza, 28 years old, a foreign player with Zhejiang Football Club, hailing from the Republic of Gabon.
After inspecting the site and reviewing surveillance camera footage, the police confirmed that the player fell from his balcony, and no signs of violence or external interference were found, leading investigators to rule out the possibility of any criminal suspicion.
Boupendza’s death sparked widespread controversy in the media and on social networks, with varying narratives suggesting the possibility of suicide, while others speculated about a potential dispute that led to the incident, before the investigation concluded with the affirmation that no criminal elements were involved.
It is worth noting that Aaron Boupendza was one of Africa’s prominent forwards, having excelled with various clubs in Europe and Asia, in addition to representing his home country, Gabon, in numerous international competitions.
