Al Akhawayn University organized the 24th edition of the Fun Run last Saturday, an event celebrating the 30th anniversary of the university’s founding.
According to a statement from the university, this event, held under the slogan “Citizen Commitment,” has long championed values of solidarity, inclusion, and community engagement. It brought together students, professors, families, and local residents, as well as visitors from other cities across the kingdom.
The free event featured races of 3 kilometers, 5 kilometers, and 10 kilometers, catering to participants of all ages. It was followed by a children’s exhibition, a festive evening, and a solidarity raffle.
The statement mentioned that Olympic champion Hicham El Guerrouj and marathon champion Abdelkader Moaaziz graced the event with their presence, showing their support for this noble cause. It also highlighted the participation of rising athletics star Hicham Amghar, which generated excitement among the audience and inspired many young attendees in Ifrane.
An ideal experience for participants was ensured through the perfect mobilization of the city and province of Ifrane, with effective support from local authorities, public forces, and health services. This strong involvement reflects the dynamic efforts of the province aimed at benefiting its youth.
According to the organizers, in addition to its sporting aspect, the Fun Run is part of a broader initiative by Al Akhawayn University, which has been committed since its establishment 30 years ago to enhancing the appeal of Ifrane by attracting talent and developing socially impactful initiatives, as well as contributing effectively to the economic and cultural fabric of the entire region.
The statement quoted Hiba Amchar, a student of computer science at Al Akhawayn University and president of the “Hand in Hand” club, who confirmed that “the club works every year to assist vulnerable populations across Morocco through medical and social caravans, school rehabilitation, well drilling, and improving local infrastructure.”
This year, the club managed to collect donations to fund the rehabilitation of two educational institutions in the Ifrane-Azrou area, as well as to modernize a community center and refurbish a mosque, and construct a well in Tedlili, Marrakech region.
