The management of the agricultural prison in Zaio has denied recent claims circulating on some websites regarding “the suffering of inmates from the outbreak of insects, mistreatment, a reduction in the number of their phone calls, and the issue of overcrowding,” asserting that these allegations are completely unfounded.

In a clarification statement directed to the public, dated April 21, 2025, which “Express TV” has a copy of, the management emphasized that the reports about the presence of insects and cockroaches within the cells are simply false. They highlighted that they contract a specialized company that regularly undertakes spraying and sanitation operations, in addition to the daily cleaning of rooms and hallways. They also ensure that inmates are provided with adequate personal hygiene materials and cleaning supplies for facilities on a continuous basis.

Regarding phone usage, the management confirmed that all inmates benefit from this service free of charge, in accordance with the internal regulations currently in place within the institution.

The prison administration also stressed that the claims regarding overcrowding are “baseless,” explaining that the overcrowding rate has significantly decreased during the current year.

As for the allegations of “mistreatment of prisoners,” the institution reiterated its full commitment to the laws governing prison facilities, ensuring that staff interactions with inmates are conducted in complete respect of their dignity and legally guaranteed rights.

In the same statement, the management considered that promoting such “malicious allegations” aims to tarnish the institution’s reputation, declaring its intention to file a complaint with the relevant public prosecution against those who spread these false reports.

It is noted that this statement comes in the context of the institution’s efforts to counter what it described as “misleading campaigns” that negatively affect the public perception of prison work and overlook the efforts made to improve the conditions of accommodation and care within the facility.
