Doctors often recommend that individuals with pet allergies give up their pets to avoid the health complications associated with their care. However, some patients are reluctant to separate from their furry companions.
In this case, Professor Thomas Fox, a spokesperson for the German Society of Allergy Physicians, recommends the following important measures:
– The bedroom should particularly be off-limits to animals.
– Regular ventilation is crucial for eliminating allergenic particles. Cross-ventilation using opposite windows is ideal for this purpose. An air purifier can also be utilized.
– Vacuums equipped with HEPA filters can help minimize the presence of allergens. It is advisable to choose a HEPA filter of at least class 13/14.
– Soft flooring and furniture surfaces should be wiped frequently with a damp cloth. Upholstered furniture should be vacuumed regularly or protected with washable covers.
– Clothes should be washed regularly. When coming into contact with the pet, it is advisable not to change clothes in the bedroom, but rather before entering if possible.
