African Union: Cooperation between Morocco and the Department of Social Development Discussed, Especially in the Field of Migration

A meeting held yesterday, Wednesday, at the headquarters of the African organization in Addis Ababa focused on ways to enhance cooperation between Morocco and the Department of Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development of the African Union, particularly in the area of migration. The meeting brought together Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the African Union and the Economic Commission for Africa, Mohammed Arrouchi, and the new Commissioner responsible for this department, Hema T. Amon.

On this occasion, Arrouchi reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to responsibly supporting the efforts of the Department of Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development, particularly within the framework of reforming and activating its technical agencies.

In this context, the diplomat highlighted Morocco’s active role in migration governance, emphasizing the best practices developed under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, who is a pioneer in the African Union’s migration issues.

He also stressed the strategic importance of the African Migration Observatory, based in Rabat, as a continental mechanism for analysis and forecasting.

Furthermore, Commissioner Amon praised the Kingdom’s steadfast commitment and the leadership of His Majesty the King, affirming that migration is a priority during her tenure.

This meeting served as an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of both sides to promote a humanitarian, coordinated, and solidarity-based approach to managing migration issues in Africa, aimed at defending the interests of the continent and its citizens.
