ONCF Unveils Smart Station Project for High-Speed Rail Expansion

ONCF Unveils Smart Station Project for High-Speed Rail Expansion
A A

The Moroccan National Railways Office (ONCF) is set to embark on an ambitious project aimed at modernizing its railway infrastructure, with plans to construct nine smart train stations between Mohammedia and Nouasseur. This initiative aligns with the expansion of the high-speed train network and aims to meet the growing demand for railway services in the country.

Modern Stations to Enhance Connectivity

The new stations will be developed in two phases. The first phase includes the construction of stations in Mohammedia Colleges, Sidi Bernoussi, Zenata Industrial, and Ain Sebaa. The second phase will feature stations in Hay Mohammadi, Marrach Sultan, Casa Oazis, and Sidi Maarouf, along with a station in the new city of Nouasseur. This project aims to improve connectivity between urban and industrial areas while increasing the capacity of the railway network, complementing the ongoing high-speed rail expansion program.

Smart Technology Integration

Central to this project is the concept of “smart stations.” These will be outfitted with photovoltaic solar energy systems that operate on a self-consumption model. The latest digital technologies will be employed in design and construction, utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) to enhance project management and ensure adherence to international quality standards.

The architectural designs will feature advanced metal structures and glass facades that provide thermal and acoustic insulation, along with intelligent systems for building management, high-speed communication networks, and modern air conditioning technologies. Additionally, the stations will be equipped with facilities that consider accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

Environmental Considerations

The project also prioritizes environmental sustainability, including the creation of green spaces around the stations and the installation of rainwater drainage and wastewater management systems. Sustainable solutions will be implemented to optimize energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions, aligning with Morocco’s commitment to sustainable development.

Ensuring Safety and Compliance

To guarantee the safety of the construction works, the ONCF has mandated that the contracting companies adhere to stringent safety protocols when operating near existing railway lines. Workers will undergo specialized training and certifications before commencing their tasks. Furthermore, timelines for completing preliminary facilities have been established, paving the way for the main construction phases.

This initiative forms part of ONCF’s broader investment program, which aims to modernize the national railway network and develop contemporary, sustainable stations that support the anticipated expansion of high-speed rail services, solidifying Morocco’s status as a leader in modern railway transport within Africa.
