The National Initiative for Human Development (NIHD) has demonstrated its effectiveness in transforming individual ideas into successful projects that bolster the social and solidarity economy in the Fahs-Anjra region. This initiative has particularly empowered women and youth by creating job opportunities and fostering sustainable development.
Empowering Local Cooperatives
In celebration of International Cooperatives Day, numerous success stories emerged, showcasing the significant impact of NIHD’s programs. One standout example is the “North Herbal and Medicinal Plants Cooperative,” which focuses on cultivating medicinal and aromatic plants using sustainable methods. According to cooperative president Radia El Kamas, the project received support from the NIHD in 2025, enabling the acquisition of modern equipment for producing and extracting natural materials used in cosmetics. This endeavor not only ensures the availability of chemical-free products in the local market but also generates job opportunities for women and small-scale farmers.
Encouraging Youth Involvement
El Kamas urged young people to take advantage of the NIHD’s programs by registering on its platforms for support, training, and mentorship, which can help them turn their ideas into income-generating ventures. Another cooperative, “Random Quad Tanger,” illustrates a successful initiative in the tourism sector. Launched in 2023 with four quad bikes, the cooperative rapidly expanded its fleet to 14. This growth has created employment opportunities for local youth and promoted the natural and touristic attractions of the Mlouka region and the wider Fahs-Anjra area.
Tapping into Adventure Tourism
Mohamed Zekaf, the cooperative’s manager, noted that the project has successfully attracted adventure enthusiasts both locally and internationally. This influx not only enhances the region’s tourism appeal but also encourages ongoing development of the enterprise. Meanwhile, Hicham Soussi, responsible for the third program of the NIHD within the Social Affairs Department in Fahs-Anjra, emphasized the initiative’s crucial role in supporting cooperatives in the region. He highlighted its contributions to local development, strengthening the social economy, and showcasing the region’s economic and tourism potential.
Commitment to Cooperative Development
The observance of International Cooperatives Day exemplifies NIHD’s commitment to fostering the cooperative fabric as a vital driver of economic and social development. This approach effectively addresses unemployment challenges while enhancing living conditions for the population, particularly for women and aspiring young entrepreneurs.
As the NIHD continues to invest in and promote cooperative initiatives, it underscores the importance of community-driven solutions in achieving sustainable development objectives.
