A celebration of the International Day of Cooperatives took place on July 7, 2026, in Ain Chock, Morocco, reflecting the significant role cooperatives are increasingly playing in local development, social cohesion, and economic integration. The event highlighted the cooperative sector as a vital mechanism for uplifting vulnerable communities in the region.
Building Bridges for Development
The gathering, held at the Abdullah Kenoun Cultural Complex, was attended by local officials, elected representatives, and civil society members, all united in their commitment to fostering cooperative growth. The ceremony commenced with a recitation from the Quran, followed by the national anthem. This year’s theme, “Cooperatives for a Peaceful World,” underscored global recognition of cooperatives’ contributions to social justice and economic inclusion.
In her opening speech, the regional governor emphasized that this initiative aligns with the National Human Development Initiative’s goals, which prioritize cooperative support through a holistic approach that combines financing, training, and technical assistance. She noted that the commitment to cooperatives serves as a foundation for sustainable community development, particularly benefiting marginalized groups.
Impact of the National Initiative
Reflecting on the achievements of the National Human Development Initiative during its third phase in Ain Chock, the governor disclosed that 35 projects, including 22 cooperatives, received financial and advisory support totaling approximately 7.9 million dirhams. This initiative has directly benefited 548 individuals, with the program contributing 5 million dirhams. Looking ahead, six new cooperatives will receive ongoing support in 2026, designed to guide them from concept to market readiness, with an emphasis on training and capacity building.
The program included a corporate film showcasing the local government’s efforts to strengthen the social and solidarity economy, and testimonials from beneficiaries shared how this support has positively impacted their economic and social circumstances, enabling them to transform their projects into successful models worthy of replication.
Fostering Sustainable Growth and Peace
The event featured a scientific presentation titled “The Role of Cooperatives in Sustainable Development and Peace,” which discussed the cooperative model’s social, economic, and humanitarian dimensions. This dialogue emphasized cooperatives’ role in achieving sustainable development goals and promoting social harmony. Additionally, the official launch of the Social Economy and Entrepreneurship Forum took place, which ran from July 7 to 9. This forum encompassed workshops on management, strategic planning, digital marketing, and artificial intelligence, alongside platforms for cooperatives to exhibit their products and share experiences.
Participants highlighted that Ain Chock serves as a model for implementing public policies associated with the National Human Development Initiative by translating institutional support into tangible projects that have a direct impact on local families and communities. The funding, training, and advisory measures aim to ensure project sustainability and enhance the competitiveness of cooperatives.
The event concluded with prayers for the safety and stability of King Mohammed VI and a collective hope for the continued blessing of security in the kingdom, affirming that cooperatives and the social economy remain essential drivers in the journey toward national development.
