Amine Mazouaghi, the Director General of the Digital Development Agency, confirmed that organizing the fourth edition of “GITEX Africa” in Morocco, scheduled from April 7 to 9 in Marrakech, reflects a strategic direction based on leveraging digital transformation as a driver for economic and social development, and as a foundation for enhancing cooperation among African countries.

During the presentation of this new edition in Rabat, Mazouaghi pointed out that last year’s event saw wide participation, exceeding 52,000 visitors, alongside nearly 1,500 exhibitors and startups, as well as the presence of investors and stakeholders from over 130 countries, highlighting the growing importance of this event on the international stage.

He noted that this year’s edition embodies a strategic dimension that transcends mere spectacle, representing Morocco and Africa’s ambition to shift from technology consumption to production and development. He emphasized that the continent has now become a significant player in shaping the future digital landscape rather than merely being a recipient.

The same official stressed that the issue of digital sovereignty has become linked to economic security and the ability to control keys to the future, highlighting Morocco’s efforts to establish itself as a regional digital hub linking Africa with the rest of the world by developing advanced infrastructure and fostering investment in innovative fields.

Trixie Lumerand, CEO of “Goun International,” stated that “GITEX Africa” represents the first global expansion of the brand outside the UAE and offers an opportunity to attract new investments, especially with the participation of countries joining for the first time.

She added that Morocco possesses significant digital capabilities, including over 20 data centers, with projections suggesting its share will rise to about 35% of this regional capacity in the coming years.

Furthermore, she confirmed that this event facilitates the establishment of new partnerships and enhances technological content, noting that it will contribute to vital fields including artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

She concluded by praising Morocco’s investment in human capital through digital skill development programs, which enable the transition from consumption of technological services to their production and export, solidifying its position as a regional player in computing and innovation.
