Marrakech: Launch of the “Desert Mountain 2025” Exercise Between Morocco and Britain
In compliance with the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the new edition of the “Desert Mountain” exercise commenced on October 1st in the “Rimrim” area near Marrakech. This exercise is organized by the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces in partnership with the British forces.
The exercise will continue until October 17th and is one of the oldest bilateral drills, with its origins dating back to 1989. It represents an opportunity to exchange operational and tactical expertise while honing coordination and combat readiness skills in training environments that simulate real-world scenarios.
This year’s edition commemorates the 25th anniversary of the exercise’s inception, attended by the British Ambassador in Rabat and senior military officials from both sides, reflecting the depth of the strategic partnership and the strength of defense ties between the two countries.
Participating units include the Royal Gendarmerie, the first and second parachute infantry brigades, and the Royal Gibraltar Regiment from the British forces. Activities encompass advanced tactical maneuvers, rapid intervention training, urban combat, and joint multi-faceted maneuvers to enhance operational harmony among the units.
The “Desert Mountain” exercise reaffirms the position of the Royal Armed Forces as a professional and reliable institution, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in contributing decisively to regional and international security and stability.
