His Majesty the King Calls for Fairness in Mountainous Regions and Development of Coasts and Rural Areas
In the realm of territorial development, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in his speech marking the opening of the new legislative year, urged the nation’s representatives to pay special attention to the most vulnerable areas, particularly mountainous regions and oases. He advocated for an integrated public policy that takes into account their unique characteristics and invests in their potential, emphasizing that these areas represent approximately 30 percent of the national territory.
His Majesty stressed that achieving cohesive development requires “actual integration and solidarity among regions.” In this context, he called for the activation of laws and plans related to the national coastline, aiming for a balance between economic development and environmental protection within the framework of the national marine economy.
The King also called for the expansion of rural centers as alternative spaces for urban expansion, capable of bringing essential services closer to citizens in rural areas, thereby enhancing territorial cohesion and reducing disparities between cities and villages.
