Lafitit Announces the Termination of Stalled Road Agreement in Tiznit Province and Rescheduling of Projects

Interior Minister Abdelouafi Lafitit has announced the termination of a road partnership agreement in Tiznit Province, which involved the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Equipment and Water, and the regional council. The decision comes due to delays in implementation and work from 2015 to 2019.

The government official explained that the project, which involves the expansion and strengthening of two sections of Regional Road No. 104, has only achieved 30% completion, reflecting a lack of commitment to set deadlines. This prompted the decision to terminate the agreement and reschedule the remaining projects within new developmental programs, aimed at accelerating implementation and achieving efficiency.

In this context, Lafitit noted that the Tafrout region has benefited from several road projects aimed at alleviating the isolation of remote villages, in partnership with various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Equipment and Water, and the Ministry of Agriculture.

These projects include four ongoing works and three completed projects under partnerships, alongside two completed projects within a program to reduce regional and social disparities. This includes the road linking Ikhf Ivolo to the Tasrirt municipality over a distance of 17.5 kilometers, and the road connecting the provinces of Tiznit and Taroudant, which has reached approximately 80% completion in its second phase.

The ongoing works also involve enhancing road infrastructure through the installation of technical layers, paving new sections, reinforcing road sides, and constructing drainage facilities for rainwater, with plans to complete the remaining sections as soon as weather conditions improve.

The minister also addressed the “Aknin Makour” road project aimed at connecting several remote villages, which has been completed and is awaiting final delivery. Additionally, a maintenance project for the road linking the Tizi Amanouz area to Regional Road No. 107 passing through Tarssouat is at an advanced stage of completion.

Regarding regional council interventions, 12 road projects have been executed from 2021 to 2024 across various municipalities, focusing on improving access to several villages and constructing a facility over the “Amsegnat” river to enhance transportation conditions and strengthen regional connectivity.

Lafitit confirmed that these projects have not encountered irregularities and are in good condition, emphasizing the continued coordination among various stakeholders to overcome challenges and accelerate the pace of completion, within a participatory approach aimed at developing road infrastructure and alleviating rural isolation.
