Finland Resumes Processing Asylum Applications from Syrians
The Finnish Immigration Service has announced the resumption of processing asylum applications submitted by Syrians, which had been suspended in December 2024. The agency is currently handling 320 applications.
In a statement, the agency said: “In light of significant changes in the security situation in Syria, the processing of asylum applications submitted by Syrians was suspended last December. Now, the Immigration Service will continue to process the applications.”
The statement quoted the Head of the International Protection Department, Antti Lehtinen, as saying: “Based on our information about the country, the security situation has stabilized to a level that allows us to resume decision-making.”
This decision is part of the ongoing evaluation of the security conditions in Syria, enabling eligible individuals to seek protection and continue their lives in Finland.
