The permanent representative of Morocco to the United Nations, Omar Hilale, alongside his Belgian counterpart Sophie Wilmès, presented the final draft of the Doha Political Declaration on Social Development to the President of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
This declaration is set to be adopted during the summit scheduled to take place from November 4 to 6 in the Qatari capital, following a lengthy process of intense negotiations among member states to align their perspectives on social development.
The President of the General Assembly, William Yang, praised the achievement, describing the international consensus on such a complex issue as a “rare diplomatic success” in the current multilateral context.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres also extended his congratulations to Ambassador Hilale, emphasizing Morocco and Belgium’s roles in leading the process and achieving this important consensus.
The declaration lays the foundation for social development in the coming years, focusing on eradicating poverty, creating decent work opportunities, enhancing social inclusion, ensuring quality education, equal rights for women, comprehensive social protection, as well as housing, water, and sanitation for all, reflecting Morocco’s development model based on the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
