Nizar Baraka: Urgent Measures and Strategic Projects to Address the Water Crisis in Morocco
Follow-up
The Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, stated in a statement made on the sidelines of a meeting of the steering committee for the drinking water supply and irrigation program that Morocco is facing increasing pressure on its water resources, especially during the summer months and with the rise in heatwaves.
Baraka emphasized that the meeting provided an opportunity to assess the current situation and implement urgent measures for the affected rural areas by strengthening the fleet of water tankers and adopting temporary solutions to address the observed water supply shortages.
The minister noted that several major water-related projects are making significant progress, particularly the inter-basin linkage projects and the acceleration of dam construction. Additionally, projects for seawater desalination will be launched next month, aiming to achieve a production of 1.7 billion cubic meters of desalinated water by 2030, in line with royal directives.
