Local authorities in the Nador province clarified on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, that there are no reported injuries among citizens concerning news of health risks linked to consuming sweets suspected of containing glass shards in the city of Zaiu.
The same sources confirmed that the results of medical examinations conducted on Sunday, July 27, at the local hospital in Zaiu on several individuals who visited the hospital after hearing the news indicated that they were in good health, with no cases of foreign body ingestion recorded.
To further reassure the public about the health status of certain cases, three children were transferred to Al-Hosn Hospital in Nador for advanced examinations, including medical tests and ultrasound scans. Medical reports from Al-Hosn Hospital confirmed that there were no signs of glass shard ingestion, allowing the children to leave the hospital on the same day in good health.
Simultaneously, and following the discovery of an unidentified glass shard in a piece of consumed candy, a mixed committee visited the candy shop where this food item was prepared. The inspections uncovered violations regarding the sanitary safety conditions of food products.
In light of these violations, the shop’s operations were temporarily suspended until the investigation and inquiry processes are concluded, with the aim of safeguarding consumer health and ensuring food safety.
