Moroccan Airports Authority Launches New Terminal at Casablanca Airport

The Moroccan Airports Authority has issued a “Request for Expressions of Interest” for the construction of a new terminal at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, which aims to become the primary future gateway for the kingdom as it prepares to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The announcement stated that the project’s goal is to “increase the airport’s annual capacity to 35 million passengers by 2030, up from the current 15 million passengers.”

It was noted that “with an estimated investment of 15 billion dirhams (approximately 1.6 billion USD), the new generation terminal will achieve a capacity of up to 35 million passengers annually by the end of 2029, allowing for an additional 20 million passengers each year. This will bolster Casablanca’s strategic role as a key continental hub connecting Europe, Africa, and the Americas, and it will support the development of Royal Air Maroc as the national carrier.”

The source added that “this major project is part of the Airports Authority’s ‘Airports 2030’ vision, an ambitious strategy focused on creating smarter, more sustainable infrastructures and enhancing air connectivity. The future terminal will be equipped with the latest aviation technologies worldwide, ensuring a seamless digital journey for travelers, energy sustainability, adaptation to climate changes, and operational excellence. Furthermore, it will incorporate a high-speed train station connecting Casablanca Airport to Rabat in 30 minutes and Marrakech in less than an hour.”

To execute this strategic endeavor, the Airports Authority has launched two Requests for Expressions of Interest: the first seeks “a company to manage the program, overseeing the general supervision of the project, including the terminal building, runways, taxi areas, and associated facilities, while coordinating with all stakeholders according to international standards.” The second involves “a construction company or consortium responsible for detailed engineering and the construction of the new terminal, including the integration of various airport systems provided by other companies.”

The announcement emphasized that “through this structured project, Morocco reaffirms its commitment to making air transport a key driver of economic and tourism development. This exemplary initiative will enhance the kingdom’s connectivity to the world, stimulate investment and job creation, and solidify the country’s leadership in international air transport as it approaches the hosting of the 2030 World Cup, which will be co-hosted with Spain and Portugal.” Additionally, “the Airports Authority exemplifies, through this project, a realistic and ambitious forward-looking vision that meets national priorities.”
