The Colombian Congress has reiterated its support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco. This statement was made by the President of the Colombian Congress, Efraín José Cepeda Sarabia, during his speech yesterday at the opening of the third South-South Parliamentary Dialogue Forum, held at the House of Councillors, under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
In his remarks, Cepeda Sarabia stated, “I reaffirm that the Congress, as the legitimate representative of the Colombian people, supports Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and rejects the Colombian government’s erroneous stance.”
He also expressed the Colombian Parliament’s firm rejection of his country’s recognition of the fictitious entity, recalling that the Senate adopted two resolutions to support Morocco’s territorial integrity and its sovereignty over its Sahara.
In this context, he reaffirmed the commitment of Colombian legislative institutions to continue their support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, describing the Kingdom as a “partner” of Colombia.
He also announced the establishment of a Morocco-Colombia parliamentary friendship group in the Senate, aimed at enhancing “strategic” cooperation ties between the legislative bodies of both countries.
It is worth noting that the South-South Parliamentary Dialogue Forum is organized in partnership between the House of Councillors and the Association of Senate, Shura, and Similar Councils in Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA), under the theme “Interregional and Continental Dialogues in the Global South: A Fundamental Lever for Addressing New International Cooperation Challenges and Achieving Peace, Security, Stability, and Joint Development.”
The sessions and meetings of the forum, which spans two days, provide a platform to showcase available investment opportunities and assess South-South cooperation potentials for broader regional integration and complementarity, as well as advancing priority sectors, fostering robust economic cooperation, expanding trade and exchange horizons, strengthening strategic partnerships, and networking economic relations.
