Ahmed Toufiq, the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, stated yesterday in the House of Representatives that the total bonuses provided by the ministry to religious officials for the year 2024 reached 2.35 billion dirhams.

In response to an oral question regarding “the condition of certain mosques,” raised by the Independence Party team during the session of oral questions, Toufiq emphasized that “the ministry is responsible for all religious officials in the mosques of the kingdom, as they are tasked with religious guidance.”

He noted that the ministry grants bonuses to all religious officials, regardless of whether they receive “the allowance” in rural mosques, which comprise about 25%, or those who receive bonuses from individuals or associations in urban areas.

Regarding the status of religious officials in mosques funded or established by benefactors, Toufiq highlighted that “the ministry has practically and legally maintained the possibility of benefactors, whether individuals or groups, contributing to the construction of mosques and supporting religious officials, provided that worship practices follow the constants of the nation, away from calls to extremism.”
