Morocco and Slovenia Encourage Partnerships
Morocco and Slovenia reiterated their commitment to strengthening partnerships in all areas of mutual interest during discussions on Friday in Ljubljana.
This determination was expressed during talks held by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, with Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tanja Fajon.
The two sides particularly emphasized the need to enhance economic and trade cooperation, especially in the fields of renewable energy, logistics, agriculture, and the automotive industry.
The officials also agreed on the importance of holding economic forums to stimulate exchanges between economic players in both countries. They highlighted the need to enhance cooperation between the Port of Koper and all Moroccan ports, especially the Port of Tangier-Med.
Both ministers underscored the necessity of promoting cooperation in the cultural and academic fields to foster human and economic development, calling for increased exchanges at the government and civil society levels within the framework of the Union for the Mediterranean.
Bourita and Fajon expressed their support for bilateral and regional academic cooperation between the Euro-Mediterranean universities; “Emuni” in Piran and the Euro-Mediterranean University in Fes, focusing on the fields of science, research, innovation, and the blue economy, in order to create opportunities for empowering youth across the Mediterranean region. They also affirmed their intention to contribute to strengthening the strategic partnership between the European Union and the Kingdom of Morocco, emphasizing the importance of establishing cooperation between Morocco and the EU based on solid and sustainable foundations.
Bourita’s visit to Slovenia reflects the excellent relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Slovenia, based on mutual respect, trust, continuous consultation, and cooperation.
On this occasion, Morocco welcomed Slovenia’s decision to open an embassy in Rabat in June 2025.
The two ministers also agreed that Morocco’s similar decision to open an embassy in Ljubljana would give new momentum to cooperation between the two countries.
Bourita, who congratulated Fajon on Slovenia’s membership in the UN Security Council for 2024/2025, expressed his appreciation for the inclusive approach that her country brings to the work of the Council and the significant priorities for its presidency within this international body, in favor of maintaining international peace and security.
Both sides noted the positive and constructive role that Morocco and Slovenia play in maintaining stability, security, and peace in their respective regions. They affirmed their commitment to the fundamental universal principles of the UN Charter, the necessity of peaceful resolution of conflicts while fully respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states, and reiterated their willingness to deepen their dialogue and cooperation on regional and international issues of common interest and key strategic challenges.
During his visit to the Slovenian capital, Bourita was received by President Nataša Pirc Musar, and held talks with National Assembly President Urška Klakočar Zupančič and Prime Minister Robert Golob.
