A national seminar on “The Moroccan Parliament and the Sahrawi Issue” will be held at the House of Councillors next Monday.

According to a statement from the council, the organization of this political and intellectual seminar is part of the work program of the temporary thematic working group, which also includes a series of various activities and events such as hearing sessions, internal workshops, and monitoring diverse contributions and academic productions from entities and individuals concerned with the Sahrawi issue, in addition to a focus on studying an extensive documentary record covering various relevant aspects of the topic.

The agenda for this national seminar includes, in addition to an opening session featuring speeches from political parties, two thematic sessions. The first will address the Sahrawi issue through the management of the United Nations, recent developments, and prospects for a final resolution of the matter, while the second thematic session will focus on the developmental and legal approaches related to this file.

In this context, the seminar will conclude with the issuance of a summary report that includes findings and recommendations resulting from the deliberations and discussions, which will involve political actors, academics, civil society members, and experts recognized for their competence and close monitoring of this file.

The organization of this important national seminar, according to the statement, comes at a critical juncture for Morocco’s primary national issue, characterized mainly by the achievements and progress made by the country towards finding a final settlement to the fabricated conflict over the Moroccan Sahara, and the pressing need for vigilance and continued mobilization to safeguard these gains, where parliamentary diplomacy constitutes one of the main fronts for gaining further recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.

It is worth noting that the temporary thematic working group on the territorial integrity of the Kingdom was established in accordance with the provisions of the internal regulations of the House of Councillors.
