The Ministry of Interior Launches a Huge Investment Project for the Digitization of Civil Status to Improve Administrative Services

- in Society

The Ministry of Interior has announced the launch of an unprecedented national project aimed at digitizing the civil status system in a move designed to modernize public administration and strengthen its relationship with citizens. This massive project will be implemented with an investment exceeding 19.4 billion dirhams and is considered one of the key initiatives under the digital transformation currently taking place in the Kingdom.

This project is expected to allow citizens both inside and outside the country to electronically obtain administrative documents, such as birth and death certificates, without the need to travel or deal with paper records, which have posed significant obstacles in the past.

The digital transition will also involve updating the family record book to become electronic, in addition to enabling the notification of births and deaths via the internet. This reflects the government’s commitment to simplifying administrative procedures and improving public services.

The project is based on Article 59 of Law No. 36.21 concerning civil status, which stipulates the abandonment of manual systems and paper records immediately upon the official activation of the digital platform in civil status offices both in Morocco and abroad.

According to the same law, the government aims to generalize this digital system over a period of three years, completely replacing the traditional system and enhancing transparency and accuracy in administrative transactions.
