Moroccan Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit met today, Monday, in Rabat with his French counterpart Bruno Le Roux, the Minister of State and Minister of the Interior of the French Republic. The two held a working meeting that included senior officials from both countries, as part of the renewed dynamism in their bilateral relations.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, the two ministers reviewed issues of mutual interest, as well as prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation, in alignment with the enhanced exceptional partnership declaration signed by King Mohammed VI and Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, during the state visit in October 2024.
Both sides praised the solid foundation provided by security and migration in the relations between the two countries, which will be further reinforced in light of France’s position affirming that the present and future of the Sahara are fully within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.
The ministers noted that cooperation in the fields of security and immigration operates within a dynamic context based on mutual trust, driven by shared challenges and the common perspective both countries have regarding the regional and international environment, as well as their alignment on strategic issues.
From this perspective, and in order to strengthen this dynamism and constructively navigate various circumstances, Laftit proposed establishing a new comprehensive framework for partnership and cooperation. This would involve revising several agreements between the two ministries to create a mechanism that meets their shared aspirations. In this regard, the adoption of a roadmap for cooperation between the interior ministries of Morocco and France constitutes a fundamental building block.
On the security front, the ministers commended the fruitful cooperation between the relevant agencies of both countries. This cooperation, which is based on close coordination and information exchange, has effectively contained the terrorist threat and achieved several tangible successes, particularly in dismantling terrorist and criminal networks.
Laftit recalled the comprehensive and human-centered approach that the Kingdom adopts in migration governance, in accordance with the high royal directives. He emphasized the importance of the work carried out by the Permanent Mixed Migration Group Morocco – France, which serves as the reference mechanism for addressing operational challenges in a seamless manner. The minister also reaffirmed Morocco’s full commitment to establishing a common reference framework, both procedurally and statistically.
The statement concluded that both sides agreed on the necessity to expand and enhance the scope of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of civil protection and the management of major events.
