The Moroccan National Meteorological Directorate has issued an orange alert for an upcoming heatwave expected to impact several regions across the country. Temperatures could soar to 45 degrees Celsius from today until Saturday, prompting concerns for public safety.
Regions Affected by Severe Heat
The heatwave will predominantly affect areas such as Zagora, Tata, Smara, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Ausard, where temperatures are anticipated to reach between 43 and 45 degrees Celsius.
Widespread Weather Warnings
Other regions, including Al-Youssoufia, Beni Mellal, Fkih Ben Salah, Errachidia, Khénifra, Boulemane, Chichaoua, Jerrif, Taounate, Taza, Taroudant, Tinghir, Khouribga, Settat, Qalaat al-Sraghna, Marrakech, Al-Rhamna, Figuig, Jerada, Oujda Angad, Taourirt, and Guelmim, are warned of temperatures ranging from 40 to 43 degrees.
Moderate Temperatures in Coastal Areas
Coastal regions like Wazan, Agadir Ida Ou Tanane, Ait Baha, Essaouira, Berkane, Driouch, and Nador will experience relatively lower temperatures, with forecasts ranging from 36 to 40 degrees Celsius.
Public Advisory for Safety
In light of these alarming conditions, the National Meteorological Directorate has urged citizens to take precautions, especially during the afternoon when temperatures peak. It is advised to avoid direct sun exposure and to drink plenty of water to ensure safety throughout the duration of the heatwave, which is expected to last until the weekend.
