In a significant boost for emerging Moroccan poets, the Dar Al-Shi’r in Marrakech has unveiled the seventh volume of its collection, “Inspirations in Poetry.” This annual publication aims to cultivate and amplify the voices of contemporary poetic talent in Morocco, featuring a stellar cover piece by artist and calligrapher Hassan Fersawi.
A Platform for New Voices
The latest edition spans 220 pages and showcases the works of poets awarded the “Best Poem” prize in its seventh edition for 2025. In addition, the collection includes selected texts deemed worthy by the jury for their creative value and promising poetic vision. This initiative fits within Dar Al-Shi’r’s broader cultural project, conducive for discovering new talents and enriching Moroccan poetry by providing wider platforms for emerging creative experiences.
A Diverse Representation
The first section of the anthology features works from 48 poets representing various regions of Morocco, including names such as Idimbi Hamid Adekabli, Maad Ben Taleb, and Ayat Koutit, among others. This diversity not only reflects the richness of Moroccan poetic expressions but also strengthens the cultural landscape by incorporating a wide array of voices and perspectives.
Critical Insights and Analysis
The second section of the collection is dedicated to works honored by the “Poetic Critique” award. This includes a study by critic Ibrahim Bouabdallah, exploring Moroccan poetry through the lens of its cultural and historical context, and another by Mohammed Taichine exploring the theme of “Metaphor and Culture.” Together, these analyses underscore the linguistic and cultural diversity that characterizes Moroccan poetry, enhancing its modern richness and affirming the vitality of the national literary scene.
Commitment to Creative Growth
Through this new release, Dar Al-Shi’r confirms its commitment to nurturing creative energies, a mission it has embraced since its establishment in 2017 with the “Best Poem” and “Poetic Critique” awards. These initiatives have contributed to the discovery of numerous poetic and critical voices now firmly established in the Moroccan and Arab cultural milieu, actively promoting a cultural project aimed at renewing poetic and critical writing while opening new avenues for Moroccan creativity.
