A A

Strengthening Franco-Moroccan Transport Ties

In a bid to deepen bilateral cooperation, Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdelsamad Qiyouh, met with his French counterpart Philippe Tabarot on Thursday in Rabat. This discussion, held alongside a high-level Morocco-France meeting, aims to enhance collaboration across various domains of transportation and logistics, underscoring the strategic partnership between the two nations.

Expanding Land Transport Cooperation

Key agreements were made regarding land transport, specifically an expansion of the existing freight transport agreement. The two ministers agreed to increase the quota of bilateral transport licenses from 50,000 to 70,000, aimed at facilitating trade. They also explored pathways to streamline the movement of Moroccan professional drivers engaged in international road transport, reflecting the growing volume of trade between the countries.

Progress in Maritime and Aviation Sectors

On the maritime front, Qiyouh announced that a collaboration agreement is imminent between the National Institute of Maritime Studies and its French counterpart. This agreement is set to bolster training programs focused on modern techniques in digitizing transport and maritime trade, including opportunities for Moroccan students to partake in practical training aboard French-flagged vessels.

In civil aviation, significant progress has been made, with Qiyouh noting the resolution of several outstanding issues through effective coordination with France. Discussions included expanding flight licenses between the two nations and the possibility of Royal Air Maroc opening routes to new aircraft manufacturers.

Enhancing Rail and Airport Infrastructure

Qiyouh praised the existing collaboration between the Moroccan National Railways and the French National Railway Company, particularly acknowledging French expertise in the high-speed train project linking Tangier and Marrakech. Furthermore, both ministers emphasized the importance of renewing the 2015 cooperation protocol between the National Office of Airports and Aéroports de Paris. This renewal aims to support airport infrastructure modernization projects in Morocco while fostering the exchange of best practices.

Acknowledging Morocco’s Transformative Growth

In a show of goodwill, Tabarot commended Morocco’s advancements in the transport sector, particularly in rail and port infrastructure. He pointed out that Morocco has emerged as a promising international platform due to its significant projects, including the Tangier-Mediterranean Port and new port developments in Dakhla and Agadir.

The quality of cooperation, alongside robust relationships between transport officials, serves as a critical driver for swiftly executing shared projects and reinforcing the Morocco-France partnership in sectors of mutual interest.
