Prison Authority Denies Claims of Education and Healthcare Denials for Rioting Inmates

Authorities Address Claims Regarding Conditions at Beni Mellal 2 Prison
A A

The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration has firmly responded to allegations made by a human rights organization regarding the treatment of inmates involved in recent riots across various cities. The delegation asserts that these prisoners fully enjoy all legal rights, including access to education and healthcare, in stark contrast to claims of deprivation and poor living conditions.

A Response to Allegations

In its clarifying statement, the Delegation noted that it had previously addressed these accusations in a June 26, 2026 announcement, which labeled the organization’s claims as “misleading.” The repeated assertions, according to the Delegation, indicate a willful disregard for facts and suggest a hidden agenda behind the organization’s motives, which it alleges aim to discredit public institutions.

Prisoners’ Rights and Facilities

The statement emphasized that inmates have access to various rights outlined in the legislation governing prison facilities. These include communication with families via phone, family visitation rights, the ability to purchase personal items from prison shops, and access to medical care, both within the prisons and externally if necessary.

Educational Opportunities

On the educational front, the Delegation highlighted its commitment to ensuring inmates can continue their studies. Currently, 108 prisoners are benefitting from educational programs, with 13 in university, 20 in high school, 40 in middle school, 6 in elementary education, and 29 engaged in vocational training across various specialties.

Commitment to Legal Rights

Concluding its statement, the Delegation reiterated its dedication to upholding the legal rights of all inmates in accordance with existing legislation, firmly denying the claims made by the rights organization regarding the conditions of detention for the involved prisoners.
