Morocco’s Role in the International Force for Gaza Following Official Signing

Morocco’s Role in the International Force for Gaza Following Official Signing
A A

The Kingdom of Morocco officially signed an agreement on Wednesday in Rabat to join the International Stability Force (ISF) in Gaza, signaling its commitment to international efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in the region during the post-war phase.

Strategic Commitment to Regional Stability

The agreement was finalized at a meeting attended by Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, Minister Delegate for National Defense Administration Abdellatif Loudyi, UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nikolai Mladenov, and other officials from the international force’s leadership. This consortium aims to oversee a multifaceted approach to peace and stability in Gaza.

The signed accord establishes a technical and legal framework that governs Morocco’s participation in the multinational force. The Moroccan military is set to deploy senior officers to the force’s joint command, alongside personnel from the National Security and Royal Gendarmerie. Their roles will include the implementation of assigned security tasks and the establishment of a field hospital to deliver essential medical services within Gaza.

Core Responsibilities of the International Force

The primary objectives of the ISF will involve monitoring ceasefire arrangements, securing humanitarian assistance delivery, training Palestinian police forces, and creating a secure environment conducive to reconstruction and the functioning of civil institutions in the territory. Morocco’s dedication to humanitarian efforts will extend beyond security measures; its commitment includes enhancing medical support and safeguarding civilian welfare during this critical period of reconstruction.

A Step Towards Lasting Peace

Morocco emphasized that this move aligns with the royal directives and reflects the nation’s enduring commitment to supporting international peace initiatives. It also highlights Morocco’s advocacy for a two-state solution as the most viable path toward achieving enduring peace in the region. This initiative places Morocco firmly at the forefront of diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing Gaza and fostering regional harmony.

As the situation in Gaza remains precarious, Morocco’s involvement in the ISF could offer a pivotal contribution to both immediate humanitarian relief and long-term peace efforts in a historically volatile area.
