Morocco Sets New Record with 38 Blue Flag Beaches for 2026

Morocco Sets New Record with 38 Blue Flag Beaches for 2026
A A

The Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, led by Princess Lalla Hasnaa, has awarded the prestigious Blue Flag certification to 38 sites across Morocco for the 2026 summer season, marking a national record and solidifying the country’s leadership in sustainable coastal management in the region.

Record Achievement in Environmental Stewardship

According to the foundation’s announcement, this year’s classification includes 33 beaches, four recreational ports, and one natural mountain lake. This achievement underscores the commitment of local communities and various stakeholders to uphold environmental quality standards and protect Morocco’s coastline.

New Beaches Join the Ranks

All 28 beaches that received the Blue Flag in 2025 successfully renewed their status for 2026, while five new beaches were added to the list: Oualidia, Sidi Bennour’s Grand Beach, Tamaris 2 in the Nouaceur province, the Golden Sands and Contrabond Beach in the province of Mohammedia, and Amssa in Tetouan province.

Enhancing Coastal Quality Through Collaboration

This accolade is part of the “Clean Beaches” program overseen by the Mohammed VI Foundation for over 25 years, in partnership with local authorities, government sectors, public institutions, and community associations. The initiative aims to enhance beach quality, promote safety, and instill a culture of environmental conservation.

Rising Interest in Blue Flag Certification

The foundation noted that 55 sites applied for the Blue Flag this year, reflecting growing interest among coastal communities in this international certification. Standards are rigorously enforced, incorporating water quality assessments, environmental education, cleanliness, safety, and sustainable site management, with surprise inspections conducted throughout the summer season.

This record achievement highlights Morocco’s emerging status in sustainable coastal management, showcasing an ongoing ambition to expand the network of Blue Flag sites. Such efforts not only enhance the appeal of coastal destinations but also safeguard the nation’s rich environmental heritage.

As Morocco continues to lead in the realm of eco-friendly tourism, this latest recognition serves as a testament to the country’s dedication to preserving its natural resources while promoting responsible leisure activities.
