This summer, the beach at Bouznika has become a hotspot for Moroccans looking to engage in water sports, particularly kayaking and surfing. However, despite the increasing interest in these recreational activities, industry professionals are voicing concerns about insufficient organization and support from local authorities.
Growing Popularity of Water Sports
Mohcine Loutfi, manager of a kayaking and surfing rental company at Bouznika beach, reported a noticeable surge in demand for these sports, especially during the summer months. Families and young adults are drawn to the safe and enjoyable experiences these activities offer. Loutfi noted that rental prices vary by activity and duration, but remain accessible for a wide range of customers, contributing to the rising popularity of marine sports.
Lack of Structural Support
Despite this influx of enthusiastic participants, Loutfi expressed disappointment over the lack of support for industry workers. He stated that the city council has not provided the necessary assistance to develop the sector, whether through infrastructure improvements or encouraging small investors. Currently, the kayaking and surfing rental sector suffers from an unclear legal and regulatory framework, creating various challenges for professionals and negatively impacting service quality and investment opportunities.
Call for Regulation and Support
Loutfi is advocating for clearer regulations and frameworks to organize the sector and support those involved. He emphasized that attentive initiatives, such as those led by King Mohammed VI regarding youth projects, can serve as strong motivators for the continued development of water sports in the region. He concluded his remarks by expressing hope for increased support, which would promote growth and elevate the sector. He also thanked Hassan Boukouta, the governor of Benslimane, for his interest in revitalizing the coastline and encouraging sports and tourism activities.
