Heatwave Continues to Grip Morocco, Brace for Sandstorms and Rising Temperatures

Heatwave Continues to Grip Morocco, Brace for Sandstorms and Rising Temperatures
A A

The Moroccan weather agency has forecasted a continuation of the sweltering heat across various regions on Tuesday, July 7, impacting areas from the southern deserts to the northern plains. This heatwave is poised to alter daily routines, particularly in agricultural sectors tied to weather conditions.

Persistent Heat Across Regions

The coming days will see high temperatures maintain their grip across Morocco, particularly in the desert areas, the southeastern regions, and the northern and central plains, including the Saïs and the Gharb regions. Residents can expect a mix of low clouds in the mornings and evenings along the Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines, occasionally accompanied by light rain or fog.

Temperature Outlook

Minimum temperatures are projected to range between 12°C and 18°C in the Atlas and Rif mountains. In contrast, the plains west of the Atlas, including Sheeza and the Souss region, will see milder temperatures of 25°C to 32°C. Other areas will experience temperatures fluctuating between 18°C and 25°C, with daytime highs in Tangier and near southern and central coasts expected to rise, while temperatures elsewhere may hold steady or decline slightly.

Wind and Sea Conditions

Alongside the heat, moderate to strong winds are anticipated in southern regions, which may lead to localized sandstorms. The sea conditions will vary; the Mediterranean coast is expected to remain calm, while the Bou Regreg area and stretches from Cape Spartel to Casablanca will see mild to moderate waves. Areas between Agadir and Aklou are predicted to experience slightly rougher conditions.

Implications for Daily Life

The persistent heat may complicate activities, particularly for those in farming and outdoor labor. As temperature variations influence daily life, residents are urged to remain vigilant about heat-related health risks. This weather pattern underscores ongoing climatic challenges facing Morocco, initiating discussions around adaptation and resilience strategies for communities heavily reliant on stable weather conditions.

This forecast serves as a reminder for preparedness amid Morocco’s changing climate landscape, emphasizing the necessity to adapt both personal and community practices in light of increasingly extreme weather patterns.
