FBI Deputy Director Lauds Morocco’s Role in Securing 2026 World Cup
A A

On July 1, Christopher Wray, the Deputy Director of the FBI, visited the International Security Cooperation Center (IPCC), where representatives from law enforcement agencies gather in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This visit underscores the heightened focus on international collaboration to ensure a secure environment for the global sporting event.

Strengthening Security Collaboration

During his visit, Wray held a special meeting with officials from Morocco’s National Security Directorate and the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST). He expressed deep appreciation for Morocco’s active role in the international security framework associated with the World Cup. Wray emphasized that the United States views Morocco as a reliable and effective security partner, showcasing its considerable expertise in handling international security cooperation.

Unified Front Against Security Threats

In an address to security personnel involved in the event, Wray highlighted the essential contributions of various countries in supporting the tournament’s security architecture to be hosted by the United States. He stressed that the success of large-scale events largely depends on meticulous coordination and intelligence sharing among multilateral partners.

Addressing Security Challenges

Wray discussed the significant security and organizational challenges posed by the event, which will feature 78 major matches within an intensive two-week timeframe. He pointed out that such complexity demands a collective security approach that integrates contributions from diverse international partners.

Crucial Intelligence Sharing

The Deputy Director noted a rising trend in the number of thwarted threats in the U.S., thanks to accurate intelligence flow and consistent support from partner nations. This indicates a robust need for establishing a strong multilateral security collaboration, which is vital for ensuring optimal preparedness during international sporting events.
