A A

Lead
Zakia Driouch, Morocco’s Secretary of State for Fisheries, chaired the 27th session of the National Agency for the Development of Marine Aquaculture in Rabat, focusing on progress made in 2025 and outlining new strategic directions for the sector. This initiative underscores Morocco’s commitment to sustainable marine resource management and the burgeoning potential of its blue economy.

Strengthening Morocco’s Marine Aquaculture Sector

In recent years, Morocco has positioned the sustainable development of its marine resources as a strategic priority. The ongoing commitment to enhancing aquaculture, encapsulated in its “Halieutis” strategy, is pivotal for diversifying fish production, bolstering food security, attracting investment, and fostering economic growth in coastal regions.

Impressive Growth Indicators

During the board meeting, members noted the significant expansion of the aquaculture sector, with 244 farms now operational and an annual production capacity exceeding 90,000 tons. This growth reflects an increasing confidence among investors and showcases the efficacy of the support mechanisms currently in place.

Government Initiatives and International Collaboration

The board commended various government measures aimed at enhancing the sector’s competitiveness, including support for essential inputs, encouragement of investment, and the creation of a more favorable business climate for project holders. Additionally, the agency has fortified its international partnerships, collaborating with entities such as the World Bank, Islamic Development Bank, and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). These alliances are instrumental in providing technical assistance, building capacities, promoting innovation, and attracting new investments.

Transparency and Accountability in Management

Members of the board also reviewed specialized committees’ reports on governance, strategy, investment, and auditing. They unanimously approved the agency’s activity report and financial statements for 2025, which received a clean report from the auditor. This endorsement highlights the agency’s commitment to transparency and effective management practices.
