Customs in Kenitra Destroy Over 13.5 Tons of Drugs Under Prosecutor’s Supervision
A A

On Wednesday, Moroccan authorities oversaw the destruction of over 13.5 tons of drugs and psychoactive substances in a concerted effort against drug trafficking, underscoring the country’s ongoing commitment to public safety and health.

Destruction of Seized Substances

The operation took place in the Douar Rkay, located within the Ain Seba region of Kenitra Province. It followed the completion of legal procedures regarding the confiscated materials, which had been seized by customs and judicial police in adherence to regulatory frameworks for handling prohibited items. After obtaining the necessary court orders, the destruction process was set in motion.

Details of the Operation

The total weight of items destroyed amounted to 13,586,546.86 grams, including more than 6.2 tons of hashish, approximately 3.8 tons of cannabis, 2.03 tons of tobacco, and 1.49 tons of processed tobacco. In addition, authorities disposed of quantities of cocaine, honey, narcotic paste, and over 31,000 ecstasy tablets, along with hundreds of cannabis-infused cigarette rolls. The confiscated items were transported to the destruction site using a dedicated truck and incinerated utilizing 180 liters of previously seized gasoline, along with an additional 600 liters provided for the operation.

Collaborative Efforts in Enforcement

This operation saw participation from various representatives, including those from the public prosecutor’s office, the customs administration, local authorities, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, as well as national police, gendarmerie, and civil protection services. This inter-institutional collaboration highlights the commitment to conducting these destruction operations in compliance with legal requirements.

Implications for Public Safety

The destruction of these substances not only represents a significant victory in the fight against drug trafficking but also demonstrates the continued resolve of Moroccan authorities to safeguard public health and security. By permanently eliminating these drugs post-legal proceedings, the operation reinforces the government’s stance on maintaining law and order while symbolizing a broader strategy to combat substance abuse and its associated societal harms.

This recent endeavor serves as a clear indicator of the persistent threat posed by drug trafficking in the region and the essential role that comprehensive law enforcement plays in protecting communities from the devastation of drug-related issues.
