From September 18 to 20, the vibrant city of Tangier will host the 23rd edition of the “Tangaz” Jazz Festival, transforming the urban landscape into an outdoor celebration of jazz and its diverse genres. This year’s event, themed “Jazz Festival of Tangier,” showcases a commitment to artistic openness, reflecting the cultural crossroads of the city.
A Rich Tapestry of Jazz
The festival aims to highlight various musical styles, including swing, blues, funk, flamenco, and African rhythms, complemented by spontaneous musical improvisations. This aligns seamlessly with jazz’s global character and history that transcends geographical boundaries.
Star-Studded Line-Up
Organizers have announced an exciting array of renowned artists for this edition. Among them is the Grammy-winning duo Rodrigo y Gabriela from Mexico, globally acclaimed for their unique acoustic guitar performances on major international stages. The lineup also features Spanish artist Diego El Cigala, a prominent figure in contemporary flamenco known for blending flamenco with Latin and jazz influences, who has garnered multiple Latin Grammy Awards.
Continuing a Cultural Legacy
For more than two decades, the Tangaz Festival has established itself as a significant cultural event on both national and international artistic scenes, drawing thousands of attendees. The 2024 edition witnessed record attendance and a diverse array of performances, and this year aims to build on that momentum with an enriched program focusing on varied musical segments and enhanced audience experience.
A Vibrant Experience Awaits
The grand concerts are set to take place at the Italian Institute Palace, along with other venues throughout the city. The festival promises free performances, musical workshops, and interactive experiences, inviting the audience to engage deeply in the musical festivities.
Returning after a hiatus in 2025, the Tangaz Festival reaffirms its place as one of Morocco’s premier musical events, striving to develop its organizational model while remaining open to diverse cultural and artistic players. In its new iteration, the festival offers a comprehensive artistic experience, blending global rhythms with the aesthetic charm of Tangier, reinforcing the city’s status as a prominent cultural and tourism destination.
