The 21st edition of the Mawazine Festival in Morocco continues to assert its status as one of the largest cultural events in the Arab world and Africa. On Saturday, June 20, the cities of Rabat and Salé came alive with an extraordinary night featuring an array of international, Arab, African, and Moroccan stars, drawing an enthusiastic crowd amid a vibrant celebratory atmosphere.

A Night of Diverse Performances

After a strong kickoff, the festival’s second night reaffirmed its success, transforming various stages into lively spaces showcasing a vast spectrum of musical performances. These acts highlighted an impressive array of cultural richness and artistic diversity.

At the historic Chellah site, Senegalese artist Simi Kamara delivered a soulful performance that wove together the enchanting sounds of the African kora, bridging traditional heritage with contemporary creativity in an artistic dialogue. Meanwhile, across town at the Mohammed V National Theatre, American star Macy Gray captivated audiences with her unique voice and distinguished performance, blending soul, R&B, funk, and pop into a show that garnered overwhelming acclaim.

Energetic Showcases from International Talents

On the OLM Souissi stage, Major Lazer made a considerable impact with one of the festival’s most energetic performances, turning the venue into a massive celebration propelled by electronic beats, dancehall, and afrobeats, drawing enthusiastic cheers from thousands of attendees. Ghanaian artist Stonebwoy also lit up the Abir Raqraq stage with a powerful showcase that embodied the spirit of contemporary African music, intermingling reggae, dancehall, and afrobeats into a festive musical experience.

Over at the Renaissance stage, Iraqi artist Majid Al Mohandis sparked heartfelt moments as he reconnected with Moroccan fans who joyfully sang along to his best-known hits, creating an atmosphere rich with emotion and nostalgia. In Salé, local talents Aïcha Maya and Rif Experience represented Morocco’s diverse musical landscape, offering performances that blended Amazigh rhythms with popular folk tunes and sounds inspired by northern Morocco.

Cultural Dialogue and Global Celebration

This second night of Mawazine reinforced the festival’s commitment not just to artistic presentations, but also to serving as a genuine space for cultural exchange and unity among diverse peoples. In a single night, American, African, Arab, and Moroccan music converged in a truly global artistic celebration.

With events continuing until June 27, Rabat and Salé are poised for even more exceptional performances that will once again gather some of the world’s greatest musical talents. Mawazine is not just a festival; it has emerged as a global cultural phenomenon that thrives on life, diversity, and openness.
