The management of the Kenitra Central Prison has issued a statement addressing claims made by inmate A.S. in an audio recording, asserting he was subjected to a 15-day disciplinary penalty in retaliation for going on a hunger strike. The statement refutes these allegations, including concerns regarding the conditions of his confinement and his health.
Disciplinary Actions Clarified
The prison administration asserted that A.S.’s claims are “unfounded.” They clarified that he initiated a hunger strike on June 15, 2026, lasting just 48 hours, and that the disciplinary action taken against him on June 14, 2026, stemmed from separate incidents. On this earlier date, authorities discovered a metal piece extracted from a television and a sharp screwdriver in the inmate’s housing unit, with two fellow inmates confirming that the items belonged to A.S.
Allegations of Coercion Dismissed
A.S. also alleged that the two inmates provided false testimony in exchange for new televisions, which the administration firmly denied. According to them, one inmate owns an old, non-functioning television, while the other received his device more than two years ago, undermining the credibility of A.S.’s assertions.
Health Claims Addressed
Regarding A.S.’s health, the prison informed that he suffers from asthma, high cholesterol, and psychological disorders for which he receives appropriate treatment. The administration rebuked the claims about the conditions in the disciplinary cell, emphasizing that all such cells have ventilation windows and are subject to regular inspections in accordance with established regulations.
Context of Previous Allegations
The statement highlighted that A.S. had previously released a similar recording containing what the administration describes as false claims. They noted that his disciplinary penalty has yet to be executed due to a lack of available disciplinary cells within the facility.
