Starting Wednesday, Morocco’s “Welcome 2026” initiative is officially underway to facilitate the return of citizens living abroad, following directives from King Mohammed VI. This program, which enjoys the direct oversight of the monarch, aims to enhance the travel experience for Moroccan nationals during the summer months.
Comprehensive Support Framework
The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, in partnership with various stakeholders, has announced a synchronized implementation of this extensive reception system across Morocco, France, Spain, and Italy. The initiative is designed to assist Moroccans during their summer journeys and create a welcoming environment at home.
This year’s version of the program sees an expansion of reception facilities, now totaling 26 locations both domestically and internationally. Among these, 20 centers are situated across Moroccan airports, seaports, border crossings, and rest areas. In Europe, six centers will operate in key maritime locations, including Genoa in Italy, Sete and Marseille in France, and Motril, Almeria, and Tarifa in Spain.
Essential Services Offered
These centers will provide vital social assistance and medical care from June 10 to September 15, catering both to returning citizens and those heading back to their countries of residence. Approximately 1,400 personnel have been mobilized to ensure the effective execution of the program. This includes experts from the Mohammed V Foundation, social workers, medical professionals, and volunteers dedicated to offering support and assistance throughout the process.
To enhance operational efficiency, a central coordination office in Rabat will oversee field activities and liaise with all relevant parties to manage requests and complaints while encouraging communication with returning citizens.
24/7 Communication Available
Throughout the duration of the initiative, the “Welcome” helpline will remain available 24/7, offering dedicated phone lines both within Morocco and abroad. This feature aims to provide immediate access to information and assistance for those in need. By offering such comprehensive resources, Morocco is reinforcing its commitment to supporting its diaspora during one of the busiest travel seasons of the year.
