During a recent address at the National Council of the Istiqlal Party in Salé, Nizar Baraka, Secretary-General and Minister of Equipment and Water, affirmed the government’s commitment to implementing strategic projects aimed at enhancing regional equity and connecting remote areas. His statements underscore the urgency of these initiatives in addressing local development needs.

Investments Targeting Infrastructure Development

Baraka outlined a vision for public investment in infrastructure tailored to meet the needs of Moroccan citizens. This includes the construction of roads to link communities with educational institutions, healthcare centers, markets, and various economic activities. Such developments are intended to improve living conditions and bolster local development throughout the country.

He emphasized that the new investment charter pays special attention to regional dimensions, recognizing the significant challenges faced by remote provinces in attracting investment and generating employment. To tackle these issues, a dedicated program has been launched to alleviate isolation in these areas and enhance their economic appeal.

Major Projects in the Pipeline

As part of these initiatives, Baraka announced the kick-off of highway projects spanning approximately 1,000 kilometers, including a new expressway in the city of Errachidia. This infrastructure is expected to significantly reduce regional disparities and facilitate transportation across different areas of the kingdom.

On the topic of maritime infrastructure, Baraka highlighted the royal vision that has transformed Moroccan ports into key economic and developmental hubs. He noted that the Tangier Med Port has become Africa’s largest and ranks among the world’s leading ports, reflecting Morocco’s dynamic economic landscape.

Strategic Impact of New Ports

In his remarks, Baraka also addressed the strategic importance of the Nador West Med Port, which he described as a potential game-changer for economic and tourism development in the eastern region. This port will enhance Morocco’s logistical capabilities and integration into global trade networks.

Furthermore, in the south, he pointed to the potential of the Tan-Tan Port to play a pivotal role in projects related to green hydrogen, aligning with the national shift towards renewable energy and sustainable economic practices.

A Commitment to Balanced Development

In conclusion, Baraka reiterated that these key infrastructure projects are essential for achieving balanced development across the kingdom, creating greater investment opportunities, and generating employment for Moroccan citizens. His call to action reflects a commitment to ensuring that all regions benefit from national development strategies.
