Officials and industry professionals in the tourism sector gathered in Montreal, Canada, to discuss the upcoming launch of a direct flight between Montreal and Agadir, set to commence on June 12. This new route is expected to enhance air connectivity between Morocco and Canada and elevate Morocco’s presence in the North American travel market.
Enhancing Travel Connections
Morrocan Ambassador to Canada, Souiri Othmani, emphasized that the new flight will simplify travel between the two countries, bolstering economic, cultural, and tourism exchanges. She noted an increasing interest among Canadian tourists in visiting Morocco in recent years.
Air Transat’s Strategic Expansion
Canadian airline “Air Transat” announced that the launch of the Montreal-Agadir route aligns with its strategy to expand operations in Morocco, following the success of direct flights connecting Montreal to Marrakech. The airline highlighted Agadir’s appealing tourist attractions, beaches, and resorts that cater to Canadian travelers, alongside the significant Moroccan community residing in Canada.
First Direct Link to North America
According to Sihem Fattouhi, the National Office of Tourism’s Director for the North American market, this new flight marks the first direct air connection between Agadir and North America. She believes it will solidify the city’s status as a viable tourist destination, attracting more visitors from Canada.
A Meeting of Minds
The event served as a platform for travel and tourism stakeholders, including representatives from the regional tourism council of Souss-Massa, to showcase Agadir’s tourist potential and explore commercial and promotional partnership opportunities within the Canadian market. The inaugural flight between Montreal and Agadir is scheduled for June 12, with a flight duration of approximately 7 hours and 15 minutes.
