National Electricity and Water Office Commits to Coastal Protection for Summer 2026

National Electricity and Water Office Commits to Coastal Protection for Summer 2026
A A

As summer 2026 approaches, Morocco’s National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) renews its commitment to coastal protection by sponsoring ten beaches under the “Clean Beaches” program, a collaborative initiative with the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection that has been ongoing since 1999.

Comprehensive Environmental Strategies

In a recent statement, ONEE highlighted its annual mobilization of a comprehensive system focused on maintaining water quality, enhancing reception facilities, and organizing informative campaigns. These efforts aim to foster responsible environmental behavior among beachgoers and strengthen community engagement with ecological issues.

Targeted Beach Locations

The selected beaches for this year’s initiative include popular destinations such as Moulay Bouselham, Mehdia, Bouznika, Zenata, Ain Diab, Oualidia, Aklou, and Trook, along with beaches in Dakhla, such as Um Lbouir and El Kandil. ONEE is dedicated to ensuring these sites are equipped with essential infrastructure, including sanitary facilities and first aid stations, while also accommodating individuals with disabilities through accessible setups.

Conservation and Climate Awareness

Accompanying these enhancements is an awareness program focusing on coastal protection, marine biodiversity conservation, and waste management. Notably, this year’s initiatives emphasize climate change issues and reducing plastic waste, particularly through the “Sea Without Plastic” campaign, which includes educational workshops and awareness activities directed at children and youth during the summer season.

Inclusive Initiatives for People with Disabilities

Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, ONEE is actively engaging individuals with disabilities by organizing tailored awareness and recreational programs in collaboration with civil society organizations and national institutions. This approach emphasizes values of inclusion and citizenship.

Many of the beaches managed by ONEE receive the prestigious “Blue Flag” annually, an international certification awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in acknowledgment of their environmental quality and adherence to sustainable management practices.

ONEE’s participation in the “Clean Beaches” program is part of its broader mission to promote environmental protection, foster sustainable development, and raise ecological awareness among citizens.
